Men Do More to Research Car Insurance

The male sex do actually do more research into their car insurance policy, even though the male sex have a higher level car insurance claims, which in turn means male car insurance premiums are higher.

Tesco insurance carried out a study which showed that around 56% of men read every element of their car insurance contract, compared to 50% of women that do the same. On top of this, the study showed the male sex are more aware of the small sprint found in car insurance policies, when it comes to making a claim, compared to women.

In my opinion, the reason for this is because men know that they are going to have to pay more and that there might be clauses in the complex contract and want to get the best deal.

Comprehensive Car Insurance Needed for Women

A report that has recently come out has advised women that comprehensive car insurance should be adopted to cover items they leave in their cars.

The car insurance company Sheila’s Wheels found out that women in the UK often leave up to £129 worth of personal objects in their vehicles .

The report showed that expensive items like clothes and shoes are left in cars because of the ‘after work’ culture that seems to be a growing trend at the moment. In the report, it came to light that 27% of women were leaving these sorts of item in their cars. Also, an incredible 67% of women drivers admitted they sometimes leave up to 4 pairs of shoes in their motor at any one time. Through this discovery, insurers think it vital for women to have fully comprehensive car insurance for their car.

Sheila’s Wheels said that any item such as the ones mentioned are easy pickings for thieves and to avoid a car theft, broken locks and smashed windows, women should not use their cars as a mobile wardrobe or leave anything on display in the car.

Road Rage Affects millions of Drivers in the UK

Over the last 3 years, 10 million drivers in the UK have been prey to road rage, according to Zurich Insurance, as part of a car insurance survey.

Angry motorists seem to apply the tactics of tailgating and cutting up one in three drivers. Also exposed by the research company as a problem faced on the road was the physical and verbal threats and general abuse. Another 1 in 7 have been tailed by another motorist and 1 in 10 have been threatened or challenged by a driver who has pulled over and physically got out of their car.

Evening rush hour seemed to be a main cause of anger, with reports of aggressive behaviour peaking around this time, when people are rushing to get home after a stressful day.

Not only are lives put at risk by this dangerous driving, but car insurance premiums will go up if there is an accident and this is reflected on everyone.

Direct Line carried out a separate survey for drivers and it was found people also feel at risk when lorries are on the motorway. An incredible 18% said they felt nervous overtaking a lorry, while 39% of drivers felt frightened driving past a Heavy Goods Vehicle. In my opinion, this is a bad statistic and in some cases this could also be the cause of rising car insurance; to make sure you get the best deal, compare cheap car insurance.

When you thought we suffered enough in the cold and wet depths of winter, it seems it gets worse. More Than, the insurance company, have claimed extreme winter weather will effect your home and your car, and in turn probably effect your insurance premiums.

During this period, the first 3 months of the year, they think road users are 50% more likely to have problems with their cars, and it is certainly advised breakdown cover should be purchased.

The other alert More Than is warning the public about is thieves stealing cars while people wait for them to warm up. It may seem obvious, but there are a lot of opportunists about who wait for these opportunities to arise and it would mean an expensive and embarrassing claim on your car insurance.

Burst pipes are fairly common over the cold season and it is advised to keep central heating running for as long as possible over this period, to avoid the hassle of having to claim on the home insurance.

Another good tip is to leave any insurance details with a trusted neighbour if your house is going to be empty for an extended period of time, just in case.

Fast winds, snow and extreme wet weather has plagued the UK for the last couple of weeks and this hostile weather has caused many problems on the road. The Highway Agency has advised drivers to pack extra clothes for warmth in case of an untimely breakdown.

January could see breakdowns increase for car insurance holders!

Consumers with car insurance have been told if they are travelling on January 2nd, be warned as it is reportedly the most active day for breakdowns on the UK’s roads and this will continue into January.

The company Britannia Rescue have stated that motorists have a 63 per cent over the average chance if breaking down, when work resumes after the festive season. Andrew Beard of Britannia Rescue has said be warned of a “difficult journey” for car insurance customers and any other people using the roads on this day.

In clarification, he said: “As well as the possibility of poor weather conditions and heavy traffic, there is the added risk of cars failing to start or breaking down as many more cars than usual will have been idle over the Christmas period.”

However, drivers could take safety measures by making sure their means of transport undertake their “usual services and checks”, said Mr Beard, also adding that vehicles should be taken out for a quick drive at least once over Christmas and New Year. If the worst comes to worst, breakdown cover as part of your car insurance will help to stop the stress of it happening.

On top of problems happening on the road, they can also happen at home, by cars failing to start at all and Mr Beard said road users should think about adding the house-call option to their motor insurance policy.
